Here is a link to some analysis done on the Paulina avalanche that killed a snowmobiler earlier this month.

Pay special attention to the first photo, showing the area of the slide. Looks like the stuff we all ride, ski, snowboard, etc. all the time. This was not some big mountain or huge face that slid.....

Makes me think about sand mountain at hoodoo.
