ok so a buddy of mine got a new XP i stood and sat on it over the last weekend.. and the one thing that I loved was how wide the running boards are. then we went on another ride and i realized that my running boards are much much narrower. so my question is are aftermarket running boards available and if so where can I get some for my 06 polaris RMK 600 HO... thanks

I bought a new tunnel that solved this and some other issues but a wider and open standing area alone sounds like custom. Opening up your own running board is another issue. I assume you are refering to a stable foot area because the open board area dumps snow and seems big on the XP. Dump the snow!!

Why do you like wider running boards?

I have personally always ridden Polaris, so a narrow running board.
I always ride with the edge of the running board going down the middle of my boot. I think it gives me better traction. Am I riding wrong?

Another thing, do narrower boards not hang up as much when trenching?

Wide or narrow if your foot is on packed snow it's no good. The running board should dump snow. If you are lucky enough to get out of a trench narrow is good, if you are lifting it out wide is good, the track isn't so deep. I ride either but prefer an aggressive edge on the board to better grip my boot. Is smooth better because less likely to cut you or tear suits?

yeah my running boards def fill up with snow and get packed.. but i am a bigger guy and I kinda would rather have my foot fully fit inside the board not half on the outside rail and half on the inside..... maybe i should look into a new tunnel...

I put a set of Better Boards on my Edge this summer, and I have to tell you that it made a huge difference. I have always complained about the width of my boards until now. The cut outs are as tall as the outer rail so now my foot sits flat instead of angled in, AND they don't hold snow. They added traction to my running boards as well. Problem solved (for me at least)

I know some of the new sleds (Polaris included) have gotten rid of the tapered (narrow at the back) boards. I bet the new Dragon is a lot like your friends XP.

The boards suggested here look pretty cool. It does not address the taper, but gives you a much better platform to work off of.

I am more than likely ordering a VanAmburg this spring. Possibly a timbertamer rear suspension as well, but we will see what spring brings my way.
