Special Weather Statement
1030 am PST Wed Feb 6 2008
...A strong front will bring very windy conditions and mountain snow
tonight and Thursday...
Another Pacific storm system will push across Washington and Oregon
later this evening into Thursday. Several weather concerns are
anticipated with this system. Snow will redevelop over the mountains
later today. Heavy snow is expected along the Washington and Oregon
Cascades. However... precipitation will mainly fall as rain or a
mixture of rain and snow in the valleys of Kittitas...Yakima...and
Klickitat counties as well as across central and north central
Oregon. In the Blue Mountains...the heaviest snow accumulations will
occur from Meacham northward where 4 to 7 inches are possible from
Wednesday afternoon through Thursday morning.
The front will also bring very windy conditions. Winds will increase
late this evening with sustained winds of 20 to 35 mph and gusts to
40 to 50 mph expected throughout the lower Columbia Basin...the Blue
Mountain foothills...north central Oregon...and portions of the
eastern Columbia River gorge. Very windy conditions are also
expected on many of the mountain ridges and the southern portion of
the Grande Ronde Valley as well as areas in Wallowa County. Local
gusts to 55 mph are possible. Blowing and drifting snow is likely
over the mountains.
Those traveling across south central and southeast Washington and
central and northeast Oregon today through Thursday should be
prepared for snow and blowing snow in the mountains and valleys as
well as very windy conditions throughout the lower Columbia Basin
and adjacent valleys.
