View Full Version : Carb tuning ?
Where is a good reliable shop or person in the lower 1/2 of Oregon that can tune my sons sled carbs? I installed a SLP single pipe exhaust system, SLP big air kit, V force 3 reeds and clutch work. He will be home from Iraq in March. This is a surprise for him. As I am not a carb person. Sled is a 2000 Polaris 800 RMK, rebuilt motor with big bearing kit. New to this site but it seems awesome. Really enjoy it being about OR.
Thanks for any and all help.
Danny
Hi Danny
Welcome to the forum!! There are a number of members from around the state that I am sure would be more than happy to help out with a recommendation. What towns/areas would be convenient for you?
Ben
K-Falls, Medford, or Bend. Any of these would be do-able.
Thanks for the reply.
Danny
Danny,
I plan on being in Lakeview sometime in the next couple of weeks. Does that engine have the Mikuni rack carbs or the single Keihins?
If you get the jets that are appropriate for the SLP pipe/can, I would be more than happy to help you put 'em in. Changing jets is pretty simple.

Peeler..On snow jetting, at the altitude your son rides, average weather is the way to jet. It wouldn't be fair to expect a shop to dial it in the first time. Thats an awesome offer from BC Dan if you can arrange it!
If your son is riding in Lakeview, probably jetting from 6-9k will do you. It's almost 5k in town, will be close to 6 by the time you get out of town. SLP has jetting charts on their website, looking there, it looks like a 380/360 jetting combo will work for you (if you plan on riding Lake Co.) It's not a bad idea to have a couple jet sizes each way in case you go lower or higher in elevation, or if it gets colder. I would error on the side of a tad too much fuel, plugs are cheaper than pistons are!
Here's the link to SLP's info on their web site...

Hey Peeler, I got a similiar setup in my 2000 800 RMK and the SLP recommended jetting is spot on. EGT's are 1100 to 1200. I have the same mods as your installing, except with twin pipes and it allways runs good. Unless you need help with carb sync., I'd just follow their specs for temp and elevation and it should work fine.
