OMG!!!! A decade ago when Laird Hamilton conqured the "Cho-Poo" lip; (a local told me thats how it's pronounced); it was almost unbelieveable and impossible. (See the film "Laird...White Knuckle Extreme") My wife and I went to Tahiti and Moorea 4 years ago on vacation. I was hoping I'd get to at least SEE this break; but it is so far off shore; you really can't. I think this wave might be even BIGGER and knarlier than the one that made Laird Hamilton cry after surviving it. He has ridden the biggest waves in the world, but nothing campares to the risk of Teahupoo. It's break is created by a shelf on the coral bottom that gets VERY shallow VERY fast. Absolutely incredible!!!! Thanks for posting!

When you fall off your sled, there's seldom something in the snow that will eat you. Just sayin'.

Yeah Dan. I can't imagine what it would be like sledding IN an avalange. I wonder if the force of a wave like that can be measured?
