View Full Version : Ice Scratchers
Have not even been riding sled yet "bummer".
Maybe if I quit riding the quads the snow would fall. "You think maybe"
Since the snow is minimal and probably hard as ice, was wondering what ice scratchers you all are useing?
Especially with reverse on an 09 Polaris sled
With what snow we have you will need to hard wire scratchers the reverse wire ones will not work as will just remember there down and put them up to back up or always go forward
I've whipped up these brackets on my last few sleds to help from snapping conventional scratchers when backing up. They allow to scratcher to roll backwards instead of snapping off in the mounting hole.

Now THATS pretty slick! I just snapped a scratcher this last weekend.
They may bend a bit when reversed but I haven't broken one. And believe me I still forget when I back up. Believe me. :p
I had always been proud that I had never bent/broken a scratcher. Until last year when someone that didn't quite make it up an icy climb slid down backwards into me and took me with them.

I too belong to the broken scratched club! But, I'm not the one who was riding it! They were Scorcher Scratchers. When I replace them, they will be for a machine with reverse.

Dude; are you serious? (Was that me?) :) I went down an iced hill backwards on Sunday; broke a scratcher and scared the Ba-hey-suse out of me! (Bruised me up perty good too) But didn't hit anybody

I'll totally agree with that! I put a pair of the sidekick "reverse compatible" scratchers on this year, and so far they haven't been that great in this ice. I'm putting the wire type back on for now, i had better luck cooling running with boots down than the sidekicks.
I like that bracket, i might have to make something like that up...seems like the best of both worlds....

reverse is for trail sleds
Yes they cost more but they work great and will not break even while backing up.

I have the slidekicks and if you adjust them correctly, they will throw plenty off spray up. Replace the tips if they get too worn. I tend to mount mine about 1/2 way back however, as I see you're just short of the apex.
I have a pair on every sled.
