*NOAA Issue Date:12/29/2011 03:54:00 AM ...a strong Pacific front will bring rain followed by heavy snow and strong gusty winds to the Cascade Mountains... ...Winter Storm Warning in effect from noon Friday to midnight Pst Friday night for the Cascades of Lane County... The National Weather Service in Portland has issued a Winter Storm Warning for heavy snow...which is in effect from noon Friday to midnight Pst Friday night. * timing...heavy rain beginning Thursday afternoon will change to snow around noon Friday then continue through Friday evening. * snow levels...increasing to 7000 to 8000 ft Thursday evening will drop to 5000 ft midday Friday and to 3000 ft Friday afternoon or evening. * snow accumulations...12 to 18 inches. * ridge level winds...strong southwesterly winds of 40 to 50 Mph will shift to the west Friday afternoon. Gusts up to 60 or 70 Mph are possible on exposed peaks. Precautionary/preparedness actions... a Winter Storm Warning for heavy snow means severe winter weather conditions are expected or occurring. Significant amounts of snow are forecast that will make travel dangerous. Only travel in an emergency. If you must travel...keep an extra flashlight...
