I've snow checked a new Polaris for this coming year and will be financing a portion of the cost through a bank. I was wondering by having to finance the sled if the banks require you to have Insurance on that snowmobile. "If" I'm required to buy insurance what insurance company's out there are the best to use, and what are some of the cost's I'm looking at paying. I'm getting a 800 Dragon RMK 163. Any information you can give me would be appreciated.

It is way cheaper to provide your own than what loan companies will put on..I use state farm. An added bonus was accident insurance on me if on the machine! LOL they don't know me!

It's been my experience that if you are financing, you get insurance or the title company will get insurance and you pay for it. The insurance they get is very expensive, you are a lot better off finding your own.

When I got my sled this year, I insured through Safeco, I looked at Geico and Progressive, was really considering Progressive because you can order online; then I read a thread on SnoWest, and that changed my mind about them. Ended up with Safeco because it was cheaper for coverage than others I was looking at.

I would definitely insure, I learned that lesson this winter the hard way when I lost 4 sleds and my trailer in a fire. New sled has insurance. I may be dumb but I'm not stupid! ;)

CrescentLake,

Try giving Country Mutual a call. They used to advertise in the OSSA magazine. They were by far the cheapest company I could find.

all three sled's (05, and 2 08's) are insured thru Mutual of Enumclaw for $338 annually and that's full coverage and replacement price. Our trailer is covered thru our pickup.

That's what I thought. Make sure. My trailer was behind my truck when I had my event, and at my house. Neither the vehicle insurance nor the homeowners insurance would cover. I got 1500 from homeowners for a 4500 loss on the trailer. Ask your agent specifically what happens if you have an accident. If your trailer is "listed", they will cover. If it's not listed on your policy and you pay a premium for coverage, it is likely NOT fully insured. Trust me, you do NOT want to have this conversation after you have an event.

Yes our trailer is listed on the policy as long it's hooked up to our pickup. We made sure that it would be cover or it would of had it's own policy. We knew a person that they thought it was covered under the pickup and it wan't. The only toys we haven't got insured is the atv's and dirtbikes and we have been thinking of getting them insured for theft more so than damage.
