Lets help the cross country skiers to accomplish there expansion goals so they will help us when it comes to the Kapka Butte project.

Also, there is a 45 day response period to the proposed Meissner cross country expansion. We need to send letters AGAIN supporting the expansion. Of course, there is an abundance of opposition from the Wilderness folks I hear, so please help support this so we will have the support for Kapka snow park when we need it.
Get the letters is ASAP as I am not sure when the 45 day period started!!! Probably a couple of weeks ago.

Send letters to:

Off Highway Vehicle Conference in Bend October 17-18,2008 (includes snowmobiles)

Hello to Snowmobile club leadership in Oregon.

I must apologize for this late notice and the request for a quick response. Planning for an Oregon Recreation Coalition/Oregon State Parks OHV Conference, in Bend on Oct 17 & 18, 2008 is underway. As indentured leaders of clubs within the state, Oregon State Parks is offering Friday night accommodations to those that can respond ASAP. About a dozen motorized recreation leaders from around the state have responded so far.

Oregon State Parks Ron Price, Mike Law, and John Lane are working with Randy Nicolay from the Oregon Recreation Coalition to put together the issues and agenda items to be addressed. We are hoping to bring at least a couple of club leaders from each part of the state to discuss a number of key issues.
Issues and agenda ideas suggested so far include Legal updates on State SB-101 rules, Safety update, Sound Meter usage & hands on training (we've invited Mr. Sound,Don Amador and he's agreed to join us. For snowmobile sound testing we plan to request assistance from I.S.M.A.), Grant application Workshop, Grant Reporting, OHV future trends, Trail Maint Discussions , Legislative goals, Rider Fit Demo, Possible review of the new on-line Class I & III testing, Dealing with USFS NEPA Reports, Categorical Exclusions and when they might be used, Door Prizes, etc. Other ideas are welcomed.

We are currently looking at a rough time-line with a Friday afternoon check-in, dinner, with maybe a class or two on Friday. Start Saturday Morning with breakfast and classes till having a final lunch...it could end here, or a organized trail ride in the afternoon, with then maybe even another dinner Saturday Night...if sponsored. If one covered their own room costs for Saturday Night.....other state organizations could have Sunday to have meetings, etc., it is just that State Parks will not plan anything on a Sunday.

For the good of OHV'ing in our state, we need your club to get involved, after all, you are the leaders of Off Highway Motorized Recreation for this state. Please let Randy or me know as soon as you can if you wish to participate so we can hold a room for you and please also send us any ideas you might have for inclusion on the agenda.

I'll be away for a few days at the BlueRibbon Coalition board meeting but you can send me an E-mail and I can deal with it. You can also e-mail Randy Nicolay at Randy.Nicolay@pgn.com

Thanks,
Joni Mogstad
