I can't seem to find the parts to fix my snowmobile helmet's visor so I have either been using one that is too small or one that is too big. Anybody have any suggestions on places that sell them cheaper than the dealers. I have been on ebay and that just makes me nervous.

Also, what are the pros and cons of the different types. The one I use is similar to a motorcycle helmet but I have seen others that are like dirt bike helmets with goggles. Then there is some kind of modular one that is like mine except that the face part lifts up for easier talking. Which do you prefer and why??

Does anyone have a used helmet that is a small or extra small that they want to sell?

I use to wear a full face helmet, but got tired of the visor scratching and fogging up. I now wear a motocross helmet with goggles. I also wear a breath deflector as well. All I have to do now is replace the lens on the goggles and that's about every 2-3 years. I wear my helmet year around (atv/dirtbike in spring and summer).
To replace a visor is no fun, been there and done that. It was also hard to find them for the customer's when I worked in parts at a shop.
Have you checked with Dennis Kirk/Rocky Mountain ATV, and Motorsport? we order alot of items from Rocky Mtn. ATV and have had no problems with them.

what helmet do you have? we might be better able to help if we knew that. I finally bought a bell. easy to find parts. I have a moto cross helmet also for ridin when warm and atv, when I can wear sunglasses. Other than that I find a electric face shield is excelent in the real cold weather.
Preference has to do with weather and comfort. As with every thing people are shaped differently and what one person likes another doesn't.
find what you like and buy several.
I do this with shoes and other items that they discontinue ever few years. I find a pair I really like and then go buy 5-6 pair. Other wise when I need a new set they are discontinued and hard to find.

The helmet I have has been discontinued quite some time ago. I emailed the manufacturer with no response back. It is a Z1R helmet.

I have to have a helmet with a visor on it. I only have about 50% lung capacity so I have to protect myself from the wind or I will pay for it later.

I like the idea of the helmet that the front lifts up for easier talking when stopped without taking the hemet off. I am just worried about more moving parts equals more ways to break. Does anyone have one like that and have comments pro or con on it?

Foxy...thanks for the recommendation for Rocky Mtn ATV....I will check them out. Anyone else have a favorite site to buy from?

My spring ride helmet flips visor or the whole front. It's comfortable down to about 10 F. I like quick disconnects on the straps. I keep the tension tight enough to ride with the front all open if I want. The whole front flip is easier with eye glasses. I like electric visors. My eye glass goggles and BMX helmet are not used much even in the summer. My next helmet will probably be a beanie harley style for warmer riding with face shield? or eye glass goggles..Lots of cool ones out there too!

How do the electric visors work? Are they run by a battery?

There is a tether that goes from handle bar to your helmet, it is powered by the snow machine, its only purpose is to keep the visor ice and fog free.

Okay...I am going to keep asking stupid questions!!

Where does it hook on the handlebars? Do you have to have a special snowmobile or is it something that is standard?

The adapter comes with the electric sheild. You either connect it directly to your battery or to a charging system. pretty easy 10 min job. I can tell you the electric sheild is the only way to go in cold weather. Won't ride with out one any more.

Interesting....I always have trouble with fogging up so that may be the way to go...

Thanks everyone for answering my stupid questions. I never professed to being mechanical...the most I can do is hook up my lawn mower battery to a charger and pump up flat lawn mower tires with a bicycle pump!! ;) :)

OOOHH....I do know how to check the oil (when I remember too)....

The Polaris AF-1 is a great anti-fogging helmet, does not need the visor to keep the fog off. It has a nose cup that exhausts your breath outside the helmet instead of allowing it to fog the lens. New from Polaris for about 150, you can get the same on Ebay for 75-80. Polaris offered 100 bucks to their dealers if they could fog it when it was on display at the Polaris dealer's conference. They put people in a refrigerated van and had them exercise on exercise bikes to work up some heat; they didn't pay out many 100 dollar bills to those who tried! They size a bit on the small size, I bought an XL and it was too small; the wif loves it. Now I have to get another one!

you may also look at hjchelmets.com. They have very good prices and were offering free shipping a few days ago. Whatever helmet you deside to buy though make sure if is a snowmobile specific, especially when it comes to the open face or normal style closed face. Both of these types are very similar in looks for a normal road or dirt helmet to a snow helmet. The difference being that the snow specific helmets are designed for the colder weather. They included a breathe box in the...not something you have to buy seperate. Also most of the closed face helmets have an anti-fog covering on there lenses, not really sure how well it works, but thats what they claim. JMO

Did you get your helmet issue resolved? I have an XS HJC Full face helmet (white) with a heated shield, that I haven't worn in over 4 seasons. As soon as I can find it, I would probably be willing to sell it. ;)

Nope, I still need to find one. I figure at this point it can wait some but I definately want a new one by next season. If you find it, let me know how much you want for it. If it is too small for me, it will fit my nieces.
