So, after much discussion and research, I removed (well, Tedd actually did the labor!) the sway bars off my 04 RMK.

The results? AWESOME! I could finally get her up on the side MUCH easier than I could before they were removed. And....she handled fine on the trail (which is the compromise that others have reported).

How hard was that to do? Any draw backs to this? Seems like a good idea, but never heard of anyone doing it.

It was EASY!! Tedd did it. LOL! But no, there are two ways to do it. Cut them out (which is permanent), or remove them (just in case you want to put them back in). The benefit is that it easier to handle in the powder, sidehilling, and the like. The rumored drawback is decreased handling on trails. But I didn't experience that. Adjusting your shocks is reported to help with that. Keep in mind, this is the Edge chassis. I haven't heard anything about removing them from the IQ chassis. In fact, a friend of mine who has a new Dragon (just upgraded from the Edge chassis) isn't sure she is going to remove them from it or not.

If you want more detailed feedback, you can always search on Snowest. There are a multitude of threads that discuss the pros and cons.

Took about 30 minutes to remove. Drilled out the rivots and slid it out.
Had I known it would have made that much difference, I would have done it for her sooner.....
That is my woman in that picture, it was a proud moment to say the least.

LOL....just giving you hotshots a ribbing.....I have to learn how to ride like that....

One of the things I like about this forum is how many women are on it too.

That is really cool. You dont see many women riders to begin with let alone to be on this forum and share their passion. I think its great to see women who can ride as good or better than me. Way too go!!!

I still have my sway bars on. I'm riding the new IQ chassic and the more I have been riding it the more I'm thinking of keeping them on. If I was still on my edge chassic I would do the same as oregongirl, take them out!!

Thanks....I will let you know if I use it. I need to update our brochures this year and I think I will use the picture there if it looks good smaller. If I do, I will send you one.

That picture just makes me feel empowered to try new stuff when I am riding and to stop worrying about getting stuck!!!

I don't worry about getting stuck as much as I worry about falling off or getting thrown off! I've never been hurt getting stuck. :) I can tell you that after riding that day I came home with BRUISES!! I fell off at least a half a dozen times trying to perfect the "carve". One time I slid down the rail and ended up bruised under my arm from pit to elbow. I did feel so empowered though!!

I have never been stuck until about three weeks ago I got stuck once and last week I got stuck twice. But I have figured out that I am not trying anything new if I don't get stuck. Everytime I get stuck I learn more about what works and what doesn't. And I am having even more fun than before and I didn't think that was possible!

The thing about getting stuck for me is that I can't "unstick" it by myself. Even though I understand the process, I don't have that upper body strength to do it myself. I always feel guilty that the guys have to come help me out....I guess they are good for something!! Just kidding!! :) :) :)

Speaking of learning new things, one of the guys came over last week and raise my handlebars up. Wow, what a difference. I can now get my behind up off the sled and get up those hills so much better!!! I was able to move around on the sled from side to side with ease. It felt so much better and not so awkward. I hope the snow never melts as I want to keep on learning and getting better!!!

I'm hoping to get mine raised this summer when we bring our sleds home for the season. We leave them in storage at Diamond Lake so unless we want to give up riding time to work on them (and we don't), it has to wait. Unless it's a fix that can't wait.
