View Full Version : Free Club Websites
Hi
There are several clubs that don't seem to have current websites.
I am willing to help create and host a single page site for any club for free. I only ask that someone in the club work with me to create the text, that the effort is supported by club leaders, and that I can put a link to H2Oregon on it.
You can see the one I did for the Chiloquin Ridge Riders -

In fact, I will probably use that one as a template for other club sites, changing a few elements.
At a minimum, I think it is important for each club to have a site listing a few details and contact info.
Let me know if you are interested.

What an awesome idea for clubs that don't have the resources and/or skills necessary to have a website. I love it!!
Thank-you ..I'll go watch my Larry the cable guy show now!!

I didn't mean it to sound like that....it is just a lot of work to maintain a website that changes constantly. I probably put at leat 20 hours a month into mine, more when I first started because I had no idea what I was doing!! And if you don't keep it fresh....people stop looking.
Ha ha
You bit the bait!! I did look into what you have going but with all the other things I am not willing at this time. This however is to much bang for the time buck to pass up!!

Hook, line and sinker....
It is a big time committment as well as being willing to learn how to do it. Monetarily, it is not so bad. We are paying a web hosting company but I am using free shareware software for everything else.
You have done a great job there, I have been there for a long time. I have spent too much time and thought on club stuff for too long, this site here was one way to condense and spend less time. The web site cost less for a year than one issue of the news letter, but the time was the killer for me. Yes..time to learn too!

Thanks...I appreciate that. I have been neglecting the site a bit lately....too much snowmobiling on my part (is there such a thing) and all my groomers haven't been reporting in as regularly as they used to. I'd still like to get your trails on the website for grooming....maybe we can arrange that for next year....I was talking with Lee C and his wife recently and they told me they rode over on your trail system about 2 weeks ago and had an absolutely wonderful time. If I am quoting her correctly, Lee's wife said it was the best snowmobile trip she has had all year!
I'd also like to get the Roseburg club's trail system on our grooming page next year as we share many of the same trails. It can be a one-stop report for all of southern oregon.
Our group has had some wonderful rides lately, I'm under restriction until I see a surgeon but out of rebellion I took the project sled to Swan lake and shot pictures with the cell phone.
The map - trail thing is something to think about, We groom in loops so the way trails are listed has to be broken down. The way I posted them in the forum is what the cat does, it typically leaves the diamond lake trail divided into many segments, others have 3 loops in a loop, leaving the description as " 3 mile area all done except liars nitch and the middle tie"
Another problem I have worked around is I am an Operator and the President and daily communication with the Grooming chair is necessary for me to do the reporting. He is too shy! I seem to be chief mechanic and the operators have daily questions so I am closely involved with the groomer..making daily reports possible.
We can go by trails, but it will leave questions such as how much of diamond lake trail is done? What event might we both be at? Looking at the list and at the map, we can work out the best way to report this. National trails day perhaps? Can a link of the finished product be put on our web site?

Those are certainly some problems we can address somehow. I will plan to be at National Trails Day and we can work on it. Maybe for example the Diamond Lake Trail can be done in sections or direction:
Diamond Lake Trail Section 1
Diamond Lake Trail Section 2
Diamond Lake Trail Section 3
or
Diamond Lake Trail South
Diamond Lake Trail Middle
Diamond Lake Trail North
Something to think about and contemplate the least confusing way to list them.
And yes, you can definately put a link to the grooming page on your website. It would just require Ben to add the link and I am sure he would be happy to do so.

I know the president of the Roseburg club is a forum member but I don't remember the name.....I'd really like to talk with you and see if you have any interest in this.
