Has anyone ridden out of these places this week? I thought there was a big storm coming in. After looking at shasta skipark page, they are only reporting 1" of new:(
If you hear anything will you post it? Yea i only see where they only got 6 inches in the last 72 hrs. I watch the weather sattelite today and it showed shasta area getting hammered.

You know the government just passed a law making insurance companies pay a minimum of 500 dollars to cure the addiction to snowmobiling!

Road out of Pilgrim creek yesterday, foot and a half of fresh snow. There was a small avalanche near 4 corners. We got there about an hour after it happened and the sledder that got caught in it was head and shoulders out of the snow so he was ok. His sled on the other hand was under 4 feet just to get to the handlebars.

That was my riding partner crazy thing to see after the pelican butte avalanche we all talked about the need for avalanche kits of the 5 of us no one had one . we all agreed to get them as soon as we can. He hit the hill straight on and was about stuck facing straight up the hill when it broke loose he rode the sled down backwards before the sled stopped and he was swept off from there we watched as he was swallowed by snow. IT stopped just before covering him.Bottum line we where unprepared and had he been buried like his sled there would have been little we could do we tried for an hour with a shovel and a branch to find the sled once we had a probe pole it took only a minute. We acutualy found another smaller avalanche closer to medicine lake itself so if you head that way stay off the steep lava hills the snow is clearly not stable. I thank the group from redding and the others who stopped and helped us dig out the sled with out them we would probably still be digging much appriciated. The sled came out looking as good as it did before it was buried everyone becareful and bring ur avy pack and if you dont have one get one.
Glad no one was hurt!!
+1 on getting the right gear. If you don't have a beacon, probe, and shovel, the help you can offer is limited at best! And if you're under that snow... without a beacon, how will your party find you? You have such LIMITED time to get someone out!!
And take a class...there have been many opportunities this season to forgo a day's riding to learn about the snow, to learn what to look for, how to locate buried victims with and without beacons. Even a 4-hour avalanche orientation class may keep you off that dangerous slope in the first place! This year has been a wake-up for a LOT of people, we DO have avalanches here, and we CAN lose people!
Ride safe
